Keep Calm and Read a Psalm 23:1:
“The Lord is my Shepherd;
I shall not want.”
How many times have we wanted something—not really for any particular reason, but we felt that we needed to have it. Kind of like Gru’s youngest daughter Agnes in “Despicable Me” when she wanted that unicorn: “It’s so fluffy, I’m gonna die!!!” Well I don’t think you’d be in danger of dying, but it sure does feel that way sometimes.
But what happens when we don’t get what we want? Do we go off into some dark corner, assume the fetal position, and die? Why should we feel so defeated when we don’t get our way? God tells us that He is our Shepherd, and with Him we will never want. No, not “want” as in how we perceive the word today, but rather, “lack.” With God we will never lack anything. That doesn’t mean we’ll get everything our hearts desire, but we will have everything we need.
As humans we wander and lose our sense of direction. But God said, “I will lead you.” We came into this world with nothing, and He said to us, “You will never want for anything.” What a mighty God we serve. Everything that we need is found in Christ.
So as you go from day to day thinking of all the things you want or desire…stop. Then think about everything that you do have: a roof over your head, food, clothes, education, and (most importantly) a Savior who died for your sins.
